SIXTY TWO IZARD COUNTY COUNTS FILED AGAINST THREE

FORTY SEVEN FELONIES & FIFTEEN MISDEMEANORS

Three individuals from West Plains, Missouri have been charged with sixty two counts of crime in Izard County  charges relating to a crime spree beginning in late 2011 and early 2012 that included three Arkansas counties and possibly four counties in Missouri.

 Sheriff Tate Lawrence said the three including twenty five year old Derick Alan Volner, age 25 of West Pains; Presley J. Winterberg, age 17 of West Plains; and Michael G. Morgan, age 16 of West Plains were charged in connection with crimes involving breaking and entering of the City of Calico Rock warehouse along with theft of property charges from the warehouse.  Sheriff Lawrence noted that these charges stem from two separate occasions.

The three are also charged with vandalizing cemetery markers at the Reeves Cemetery and breaking and entering of the nearby church and theft of property from that church.  Lawrence  stated that the charges also stem from the breaking and entering of the Talley Ho Restaurant along with theft of property from the Talley Ho Restaurant on two separate occasions.

Additionally, according to Sheriff Lawrence, the three have been charged in connection with theft of property from Wise’s Chapel near Pineville and the breaking and entering of property  at the Knapp Farm in northern Izard County.

Some of the charges relate to breaking and entering of the Oxford Fire Department’s substation in Oxford where vehicles and other property were vandalized and property was stolen.

Arrest warrants have been issued against Volner to include 7 counts of  commercial burglary , each a class “c” felony:  7 counts of destruction of a cemetery marker, each a class “c” felony: 2 counts of criminal mischief, each a class “a” misdemeanor; 4 counts of theft of property, each a class “a” misdemeanor; 1 count of breaking and entering, a class “d” felony,  two counts of theft of property, each  a class “d” felony;  1 count criminal mischief, a class “c” felony,  1 count of impairing the operations of a vital public facility, a class “c” felony; and two counts of theft of property, each a class “b’ felony.  Total charges against Volnor is 25.

Winterberg arrest warrants include 4 counts of commercial burglary, each a class “c” felony; 2 counts of theft of property, each a class “a” misdemeanor; I count of  criminal mischief, a class “c” felony;  1 count of impairing the operation of a vital public facility a class "c" felony; 1 count of theft of property a class “d” felony; and  1 count of theft of property, a class “b” felony. There are 10 total charges against Winterberg.

Morgan faces Izard County charges to include two counts of criminal mischief, each a class “a” misdemeanor; 4 counts of theft of property, each a class “a” misdemeanor; 6 counts of commercial burglary, each a class “c’” felony; 7 counts of destruction of a grave marker, each a class “c” felony; 2 counts of theft of property, each a class “b” felony; one count of theft foppery, a class “d” felony; one count of breaking and enter, a class “d” felony; one count of criminal mischief, a class “c” felony; and count of impairing the operations of a vital public facility, a class “c” felony.  Total charges against Morgan are 25.

Sheriff Lawrence said that the three are currently incarcerated in Missouri where Izard County has placed a hold  on them.  Sheriff Lawrence noted that the two juveniles had been charged as adults. Extradition proceeding to Izard County will began as soon as they are released from Missouri authorities. Izard County District David E. Miller has set a $140,000 bond for  Volnor, $125,000 for Morgan, and a $60,000 bond for Winterberg.

Sheriff Lawrence commended Chief Investigator Charles Melton and Investigator J. T. Baker in their tireless efforts in solving  these crimes and develop these charges.
