The most recent scam brought to the attention of the Izard County Sheriff’s Department involves calls being made to relatives claiming that they are a loved one, that they have been hurt and need money to get home. In one particular case, a call was made to a grand mother by a persons posing as her grandson and that he was in need. The alert grandmother quickly noticed ,although the caller claimed to be her grandson and used his correct name, that he addressed her as grandmother and not the usual address as nanny.
In another recent scam, citizens are advised that they have won a sizable Wal-mart gift card provided they pay an administrate fee. The gift card is never received.
Sheriff Tate Lawrence warns that these too good to be true offers are just that and that we should not be taken in by these greedy individuals whose only purpose is to get our money.
