Deputy Ed Sollock was called around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, August 20 to a Melbourne apartment complex by Melbourne Fire Chief Rusty Campbell who had responded to that location to extinguish a vehicle fire. That totally destroyed the vehicle, a 1995 GMC truck, owned by tenant Roger Lankford of the apartments. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said another tenant reported that a man was seen running around the vehicle shouting, cursing and beating on the truck door and that shortly thereafter the truck was on fire.
A wallet and sword belonging to Robert J. Lankford, son of the owner, was found nearby. When located and interviewed by Investigators Charlie Melton and J.T. Baker, Robert Lankford, age 31 of Knob Creek Road admitted to burning the truck stating that he was tired of all the pressure of not having any friends and that his father was always taunting him. The value of truck was estimated at $4,900.
Lankford was charged with arson, a class “c” felony. Lankford remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $10,000 bond.
In an unrelated matter, Clayton Allen Lynch, age 24 of Melbourne was arrested August 23 on four felony drug related charges including possession of a controlled substance-two counts, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, a possession of a narcotic outside the container in which it was dispensed. Lynch posted bond the day of his arrest in the amount of $7,500 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.
In another drug related arrest, Patricia Leann Lovell, age 22 of Mountain View was arrested August 24 on a felony charge of attempting to obtain prescription medicine with a false or fraudulent prescription. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Lovell presented the prescription at a Horseshoe Bend pharmacy.
Phillip Wayne Cantrell, age 37 of Calico Rock and Tammy Gail Boyce were arrested August 21 and August 22 respectively on misdemeanor theft of property warrants. The arrests stem from allegations that both took items from a neighboring mobile home. Cantrell and Boyce appeared before Izard County District Judge David E. Miller, given a court date, and were released.
Shelia Jane Edwards, age 52 of Calico Rock was arrested on a warrant accusing her of criminal mischief in the 1st degree and two counts of harassment. The charges are the result on an earlier incident at a Calico Rock apartment complex involving another tenant of the apartments. Edwards appearing before Judge David E. Miler, given a court date, and released.
Jerry Monroe Cunningham, age 54 of Hot Springs was arrested during the early morning hours of August 20 on the property of another near Calico Rock after it was reported that Cunningham was mumbling and talking to himself. Cunningham gave conflicting statements to Deputy Kevin Helm as to why he was on the property and appeared confused and disoriented. Cunningham was charged with disorderly conduct and released the following day for medical reasons and given a court date.
Benjamin Jacob Hinds, age 29 of Oxford was arrested August 21 for fleeing. Hinds fled from Izard County authorities who were attempting to question him about other crimes.
Bobby Ray Eddy, age 45 of Horseshoe Bend was arrested August 21 on misdemeanor Jackson County warrant. Eddy was later transported to Jackson County by Jackson County authorities.
Lorie Ann Bennett, age 48 of Sage was arrested August 19 on a violation of Arkansas hot check law warrant. Bennett posted bond the following day in the amount of $444 and was released with a court date from the Izard County Detention Facility.
Billy Dale Eaton, age 56 of Brockwell was arrested August 24 on two counts of violating Arkansas hot check law. Eaton posted bond the day of his arrest in the amount of $416 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.
David K. Crider, age 23 of Oxford was arrested August 23 on a probation/parole violation and remains in the Izard County Detention Facility on a “no bond” status.
Nathanial Allen Lee Speak, age 29 of Calico Rock was arrested August 24 on a probation violation involving conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and failure to appear. Speak remains in the Izard County Detention Facility on a “no-bond “ status.
Victoria Danielle Shaw, age 18 of Midway was arrested August 25 on a failure to appear warrant. Shaw remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of a $250 cash bond.
Mitcheal Lee Smith, age 40 of Viola was arrested August 22 on a failure to pay fines warrant. Smith appeared in Izard County District Court the following day and was released.
A Mountain View woman, thirty two year old Melissa Jean Casey was transported August 23 from the Izard County Detention Facility to a regional correctional facility of the Arkansas Department of Correction.
