In cooperation with a the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the 16th Judicial District Drug Task, the Izard County Sheriff’s Department will again participate in a nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Imitative. This fifth annual event will take place Saturday, September 29 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, 300 Circle Drive in Melbourne. A deputy will be stationed at the main entrance to the office making it easy to drop off the drugs. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said this is an excellent opportunity to rid your medicine cabinets, drawers, etc. of expired and un-needed prescription drugs.
To date, according to Sheriff Lawrence, Arkansas has collected and destroyed an estimated 50 million pills, eliminating the medication as a potential source of future drug abuse and crime.
