Beginning Saturday, November 3, 2012, Melbourne and Izard County residents will have access to drop-off recycling two days each week, according to Sheriff Tate Lawrence. The program – which is currently available only on Tuesdays from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. – will now also be available every Saturday from noon until 4:00 p.m. beginning in November. “We want to make drop-off recycling available to our residents who work weekdays, and Saturday afternoons is a way to accomplish that,” according to Lawrence.
The recycling program operates in the parking area by the Izard County Detention Center at 300 Circle Drive on the Hwy. 9 Spur, across from the Mohawk flooring plant. Community service workers will be available to help unload materials, sort them, and place them in the recycling trailer bins from noon until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays (effective 11/3/12). Materials accepted include all types of dry paper, flattened cardboard, and empty plastic bottles, tin and aluminum cans.
During the month of November, residential electronic waste drop-off services will also be available at the center during the Tuesday and Saturday recycling program schedules. Electronic waste includes old or broken televisions, computers and accessories, scanners and fax machines, small copiers, phones, video games, notebooks, I-Pods, VCR and DVD players, etc. Items should be intact. No stripped out computers will be taken. To arrange for school, large business or other large quantities of electronics recycling, contact the White River Solid Waste Management District offices in Batesville at (870) 793-5233. There is no charge for electronics recycling with this program, and electronic waste is recycled using environmentally responsible practices.
The Melbourne drop-off recycling program is a partnership including Izard County, the City of Melbourne and the White River Solid Waste Management District. The recycling services are available to all Izard County Residents. For more information, contact the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, the White River District offices at (870) 793-5233, or the District web site at www.WhiteRiverRecycles.org.
