SANDRA GRADY LAWRENCE
A Melbourne man and his female companion were arrested at their home Saturday in connection with the theft of a firearm that was recently taken from a Lafferty Road residence. Dennis Jay Lawrence, age 47 of 2626 Tanner Holler Road was arrested and charged with theft by receiving and being a felon in possession of firearms. Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Lawrence’s female companion, Sandra ( also known as Shelley) Michelle Grady Lawrence, age 44 of the same address was also arrested and placed on an investigative hold relating to the firearm theft and other thefts that have recently occurred in the same general area. The sheriff said that Lawrence is being held on a $10,000 bond and an investigative hold relating to other thefts, and a failure to pay fines warrant from Independence County. Sheriff Lawrence said that four guns, two shoulder guns and one pistol was recovered from the residence. As a convicted felon, Dennis Lawrence is prohibited from having guns.
In an unrelated matter, Kevin Patrick Roberts, age 40 of 405 Knob Creek Road in Melbourne was arrested Thursday as the result of an incident near the place of his ex-wife’s place of employment.. Prior to the Thursday , the court had issued an order of protection against Roberts forbidding him from being near his ex-wife and various complaints of harassment and crime mischief’s acts had been filed against Roberts. Current charges against Roberts include contempt of court (violation of an order of protection), harassment, and criminal mischief second degree. Sheriff Lawrence said that Roberts remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of bond and a court appearance to address the contempt of court charge.
Marcus Colt Montgomery, age 27 of Melbourne was arrested after he reported to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office in response to a warrant of arrest. Montgomery is charged with felony distribution of a controlled substance, distribution near certain facilities, and misdemeanor distribution of a controlled substance. Montgomery was given a date in Izard County Circuit Court.
Michele Kane, age 56 of 241 Johns Kane Road in Melbourne was arrested Saturday on the charge of domestic battering third degree. Kane is accused for throwing an ash tray at a male resident of the home and striking him on above the right eye. The two had been arguing earlier. Kane smelled of intoxicants at the time of her arrest according to arresting Deputy Carl Russell. Kane remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $1,105 bond and an appearance before a judge.
Bruce Mitchell Rush, age 48 of 48 Davis Drive in Melbourne was arrested late Friday afternoon following a one vehicle accident on dry Hollow Road. Izard County Deputy Acy Beebe said that when he arrived on the scene he found a truck that had rolled over on to its and there appeared to be no one around the vehicle and that there was a strong odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle.
When Deputy Beebe returned to the truck after clocking the distance from Arkansas Highway 9,he said that three males were standing near the truck and that one started running from the truck into the woods. Located some 100 yards from the roadway in the ditch line, Rush admitted to having been drinking and that the wrecked vehicle belonged to him but said he was not driving nor did he know who was. Several bottles of whiskey was found inside the vehicle. Rush refused a field sobriety test and an intoximeter test at the jail. Rush was charged with driving while intoxicated-second offense, failure to report an accident, careless and prohibited driving, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Rush posted bond the following day in the amount of $3,565 ands was released with a court date from the Izard County Detention Facility.
Michael Edward Gilbreath, age 38 of Ash Flat was arrested October 29 on a warrant accusing him of terrorist threatening and possession of a controlled substance. Gilbreath, at the time of his arrested tested positive for marijuana, methamphetamine, and oxycodone. Gilbreath remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $3,605.
Deborah Renae McCollum, age 34 of Cherokee Village who was in Gilbreath’s residence at the time of his arrest was charged with obstructing governmental operations when she lied to authorities regarding Gilbreath’s presences in the house. McCollum was later released to a medical facility and given a court date.
Kristina Marie Baker, age 35 of Brockwell was arrested Friday after her vehicle ran into a business structure, Tobacco Superstore, in Melbourne. Baker said that she pulled into the parking lot and failed to put the vehicle in park causing the vehicle to coast into the building. Damage to the building is estimated to be $5,000. Baker was charged with driving on a suspended license, operating a vehicle without license plates, operating a vehicle without insurance. Baker was also arrested on a violation of Arkansas hot check law warrant. Baker remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of a bond in the amount of $1,193.
Steven William Chute, age 23 of Pineville was arrested Friday night on the charges of driving with fictitious license plates, driving on a suspended license, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Chute posted on the day of his arrest in the amount of $1,585, given a court date, and released from the Izard County Detention Facility.
Darren Lee Norman, age 28 of Salem and Brandie Leigh Holt, age 26 of Violet Hill were arrested Thursday on out of county warrant. Norman on charges from Fulton County and Holt on charges from Sharp. Each were turned over to proper jurisdictions.
