NEW YEAR STARTS WITH SEVERAL ARRESTS

A New Year’s Eve traffic stop south of Mt. Pleasant resulted in the arrest of two males.  A passenger in the vehicle, Ricky Dale Riley, age 61 of Oil Trough was charged with possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, and furnishing prohibited articles-methamphetamine into a jail facility.  Both charges are felonies.  Riley remains in the Izard County Detention Facility, where he tested positive for opiates and methamphetamine, in lieu of $20,000 bond and a hold from Independence County.  The driver, thirty eight year old Robert Dwayne McCoy was charged with driving on a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, driving a non-registered vehicle, fleeing, and not wearing a seat belt.  Since these violations occurred across the county line, McCoy was later transferred to Independence County. These arrests and subsequent charges were made by the Arkansas State Police, 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Izard County Sheriff’s Department.                                                                                                 

In another New Year’s Eve traffic stop, Joseph Lynn Lyons, age 28 of Batesville was charged with possession of a controlled substance-meth with the intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon,  and criminal use of prohibited weapons.  Lyons was additional charged as an habitual offender having four or more previous convictions. All of  Lyons’ charges are felonies. Lyons remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $50,000 bond.  The other occupant of the vehicle, twenty eight year old Michael William Hanson was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both felonies. At the time Hanson was booked into jail, he tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.   Hanson posted bond January 2 in the amount of $10,000 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility. The Arkansas State Police, the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and the Izard County Sheriff’s Department worked jointly with these arrests and charges.

Lewis Elmer Branscum, age 26 of Calico Rock was arrested Sunday night following a compliant that Branscum was loitering around the Calico Rock Medical Center.  Branscum was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm that was located in his vehicle.  When booked into the Izard County Detention Facility, Branscum tested positive for cocaine, marijuana , and methamphetamine.  Branscum remains jailed on a Arkansas Department of Correction hold.

Penny Price, age 34 of Guion was arrested a felony warrant January 4 on the charge of furnish prohibited articles into a correctional or jail facility. Price posted bond the day of her arrest in the amount of $10,000 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.

Jonathan Johnston, age 21 of Melbourne was arrested January 4 following the report of a domestic disturbance at Quail Run Apartments in Melbourne.  Johnston is accused of striking his sister on the face as she was placing her baby in her car.  Observing that Johnston was striking a female, bystanders ran Johnston away.   Senior Deputy Gabe Sanders and Deputy Justin Matthews located Johnston, wearing a holster with no gun,   at a nearby church and placed him under arrest. Johnston was charged with domestic battering third degree and endangering the welfare of a child.  Johnston remains in the Izard County Detention Facility.

William Edward Runyan, age 60 of Cave City was arrested January 1 on the charge of public intoxication, was released the following day and released to Stone County authorities who had a warrant for Bunyan’s arrest. 

Angel Dawn Sutterfield, age 29 of Calico Rock was arrested around noon January 5 following a physical engagement at a Calico Rock grocery store.  Sutterfield was released the day of her arrest because of medical issues and was given a court date.

Earl David McAfee, Jr., age 41 of Mt. Pleasant was arrested January 3 on charges of driving on a suspended license, operating a vehicle without license plates, operating a vehicle without insurance, and for having fictitious plates. McAfee posted bond the day of his arrest in the amount of $1,150, given a court date, and released.

Elizabeth Ann Cooper , age 44 of Calico Rock was arrested January 1 on charges of driving while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license, operating a vehicle without insurance, operating a vehicle without license plates.  Cooper was released from the Izard County Detention Facility the following day after posting bond in the amount of $2,445.

Monica Elonna Chruchwell, age 36 of Mt. Pleasant was arrested January 2 after being accused of stealing products from a Melbourne tobacco store.  Chruchwell ran from the store when deputies were called leaving a small child in her car.  Charges for Churchwell include shoplifting and endangering the welfare of a minor.  Churchwell remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $2,500 bond an a hold from White County.

Shana Michelle Berger, age 28 of Batesville was arrested December 31 on charges of possessing a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license.  Berger posted bond January 2 in the amount of $1,580 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.

William Andrew Eaton, age 29 of Horseshoe Bend was arrested January 5 on charges of possessing a controlled substance, possessing an instrument of crime, and operating a vehicle without license plates.

Michael Allen Liscomb, age 30 of Melbourne was transferred January 2 from the Izard County Detention Facility to the Arkansas a Department of Correction.
