Izard County deputies were dispatched Saturday around 6:00 p.m. to 2626 Tanner Holler Road in Izard County in response to a reported shooting. Upon arrival of deputies and emergency medical personnel, Sandra Grady Lawrence, age 44 was located near the house with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the knee. She stated that she had been shot by her husband, Dennis Lawrence. The victim was transported to White River Medical Center in Batesville and later to UAMS in Little Rock. Her condition is unknown; however, Sheriff Tate Lawrence said he understands the injury is not life threatening.
A search of the home and nearby structures was conducted in an unsuccessful attempt to located Dennis Lawrence. Assistance from the department of correction dog team was requested and they responded from the Calico Rock North Central Unit and assisted in the search. The search team, including the Izard County Sheriff’s Department and the Arkansas State Police along with the dog team located Lawrence, who was armed with a high powered rifle, about one and half to two miles from the residence in a wooded area . An encounter with law enforcement resulted in the death of 47 year-old Lawrence.
Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that the investigation in the matter is ongoing.
