The Izard County Sheriff’s Department will observe National Flag Day and celebrate the birthday of the U.S. Army Friday June 14th at the sheriff’s office located at 300 Circle Drive in Melbourne. In conjunction with this observance and celebration, there will be a ceremonial flag burning ceremony. This is an excellent opportunity to replace your worn or tattered flag and bring the old one to the sheriff’s office for proper disposal. The brief ceremony will begin at 12:15 p.m. with some patriotic songs, the pledge of allegiance, and other appropriate events.
Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that it is most fitting that we celebrate the 238th birthday of the best trained, most motivated, best equipped and most disciplined army in the world. That army, established in 1775, today currently serves in many foreign counties preserving serving the interest of the United States. The U.S. Army along with the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Coast Guard make up less than 1 percent of our citizenship, yet they protect the freedoms and liberties of everyone. You are invited to attend National Flag Day Observance and celebrate the Army’s 238th birthday on June 14.
