Three males were taken in to custody Monday night following a stabbing of another male at a residence in Oxford. The victim, Montgomery Rice, was taken to an area hospital where a slash to his throat was sewn up and he was later released. The three males taken into custody were Michael Dale Vaile, age 19 of Oxford; Elijah Raphael Banning, age 22 of Brockwell; and Kalan Ray Bradshaw, age 28 of Brocwkell. As investigators began working the case at around 3:00 a.m. that morning they obtained conflicting information as to the reason for the slashing. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that one possible cause was that the three expected Rice to arrive at the location with “posh”, synthetic marijuana. When Rice arrived he apparently did not have any “posh”. According to one of the three taken into custody, Vaile cut Rice’s throat in an attempt to steal the “posh”. Nevertheless, it was determined that Vaile actually used the straight razor cut Rice. Michael Dale Vaile was charged with aggravated assault, a class “d” felony. The other two were released the day of their initial arrest. The victim, Montgomery Rice, was arrested on a probation violation later Monday following his release from the hospital and remains incarcerated on a probation hold. On Tuesday, Vaile posted bond and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.
