During a traffic stop on the Sonic parking lot December 28 by Arkansas State Trooper Richard Pickers, a needle syringe was observed in plain view on the center console and the driver was asked for permission to search. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Lisa Darlene Pederson was asked to exit the vehicle and it was noted that her pants were unbuttoned and down exposing her buttocks. Suspecting that Pederson had hidden something illegal in her pants the assistance of a female officer was requested and came to the scene. While waiting for the female officer to arrive on the scene, the syringe inside the vehicle was retrieved and a night deposit bag under the passenger seat was located containing another syringe and a set of digital scales with crystalline residue on it, along with an additional set of scales with white residue. A third syringe was located in Pederson’s purse.
Pederson was placed in hand restraints and positioned in the back of a patrol car where she removed on handcuff before being taken to the Sonic restroom for a search by female officer Lindsey Mathews. Pederson, while cuffed was able to reach in the back of her pants and remove a bag containing a large amount of a crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Pederson burst the bag and poured the suspected illegal drug on the floor of the restroom but was unable to destroy the meth due to the efforts of Mathews.
Pederson was transported to the Izard County Detention Facility by Cpl. Rick Hill and Detention Officer Lindsey Mathews where Pederson advised that she had additional items in her bra. When searched again by Detention Officer Matthews, two small baggies containing a small amount of a green vegetable material suspected to be marijuana, a small bag containing a crystalline substance suspected to be meth, three needles, one small bag containing one round orange pill and a marijuana smoking device were located in Pederson’s bra. A substantial amount of a crystalline substance suspected to be meth was on and under the seat of the transport vehicle Pederson was riding in. Inside the jail restroom some more crystalline substance fell from Pederson’s pants.
Pederson, age 38 of possibly Cotter, was charged with possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine, a calls “a” felony: Possession of marijuana a class “d” felony; possession of marijuana a class “a” misdemeanor; possession with the intent to use drug paraphernalia, class “b” felony; possession with the intent to use meth drug paraphernalia, a class “d” felony; and possession with the intent to use marijuana drug paraphernalia, a class “a’ misdemeanor.
Pederson remains in the Izard County Detention Facility on a no bond status and is scheduled to appear in Izard County Circuit Court on January 13. Sheriff Lawrence said this arrest and charges were the result of collective work by the Arkansas State Police, the Izard County Sheriff’s Department, and the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force.
