Sgt. Acy Beebe of the Izard County Sheriff’s Department, in assisting Arkansas State Police at approximately 10:30 p.m. on January 11, ran his k-9 partner, Hugo, around a vehicle that had been detained at a road block. The narcotics dog alerted that an illegal substance was likely inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a Crown Royal bag underneath the driver’s seat. Inside the Crown Royal bag were smaller bags containing a white crystalline substance suspected of being methamphetamine, smoking pipes, scales and other drug paraphernalia. A large amount of cash and a gun were also located inside the vehicle. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Larry Silas, the 44 year old driver from Sulphur Rock was arrested, taken to the Izard County Detention Facility, and placed on a hold by the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force pending formal charges.
In an unrelated matter, Tommy Branscum, age 31 of Calico Rock and passenger Samantha Elaine Cooper, age 27 of Calico Rock were arrested Friday night in connection with a theft that had been reported in Oxford. Sheriff Lawrence said a search of their vehicle revealed many of the items previously reported as stolen. Branscum and Cooper are being held in the Izard County Detention Facility on a criminal investigative hold pending possible formal charges.
Thomas Allen Musgrove, age 30 of Salem was arrested January 3 on a failure to pay fines warrant. Musgrove remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of a $640 cash bond.
Jonathan Matthew Porter, age 22 of Norfolk was arrested January 11 on bench warrant accusing him of residential burglary. Porter remains in the Izard County Detention Facility on a no bond status awaiting Izard County Circuit Court on January 13, 2014.
Jacob Luke Anderson, age 20 of Bexar was arrested January 11 on failure to appear charges and remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of a $500 cash bond.
Michael Glen Morgan, age 18, originally from Fox was picked up Saturday from a prison facility in Missouri to answer charges in Izard County relating to theft at the Tally Ho Restaurant, destruction of grave marker at Reeve’s Cemetery, destructing of firefighting equipment at the Oxford Fire Station, and other similar charges. Chief Deputy Earnie Blackley and Transport Deputy Y. D. Whitehurst made the transport.
Benny Charles Johnson, age 65 of Mt. Pleasant was arrested Saturday night on the charges of driving while intoxicated, careless and prohibited driving, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and driving while intoxicated. Johnson posted bond Sunday in the amount of $1,335 and was released with a court date from the Izard County Detention Facility.
