Harvey Leon Loosey, age 51 of Calico Rock plead in Izard County Circuit Court, conducted on a change of venue IN Mountain View on Thursday, to murder in the shooting death of Joshua Loosey. The January 2103 shooting of Joshua Loosey, the nephew of Harvey Loosey, occurred in the woods on Loosey property off state highway 5 north of Calico Rock. During the emotional hearing, it was apparent that the family was divided. Harvey Loosey was sentenced to 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction and was immediately taken into custody by Sgt. Gabe Sanders and transported to the Izard County Detention Facility. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Loosey would be held in Izard County until bed space becomes available in the Arkansas prison system.
The investigation of household item thefts in Horseshoe Bend has resulted in the recovery of several items. These items include a large screen television and a refrigerator. Sheriff Lawrence said that theft related charges are expected to be filed in the next few days. Lt. Charles Melton of the department’s criminal investigation division is in charge of the investigation.
Chief Deputy Earnie Blackley arrested Dixie Marie Olson on March 18 on charges of battery third degree, resisting arrest, and fleeing. The charges stem from a custody dispute involving Olson’s daughter between Olson and Olson’s father who has custody of the child. Olson assaulted her dad, scratched his face, stomped on his toe and tore his shirt. The grandfather of the child said that when he would not allow his daughter to leave with his grandchild that Olson kicked out a window in the house. When Dixie Olson, age 20 of Jay Street in Melbourne, was placed under arrest, she ran. After being caught, she cussed deputies while pulling away and fighting hard not to be arrested.
A Horseshoe Bend woman was arrested March 19 on charges of driving on a suspended license and not having vehicle insurance. The day of her arrest, Ericka Lynne Stephens, age 23 of 106 Emerald Street posted a $1,335 bond and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility with a court date. The following day, March 20, Stephens was again arrested in Horseshoe Bend for driving on a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and not having liability insurance. Stephens currently remains in the Izard County Detention Facility.
Dustin Baird, age 26 of East Main Street, Melbourne and Lonnie Gene Kurtley, age 58 of Melbourne were arrested March 17 on theft related charges. According to Sheriff Lawrence, the pair was involved in taken the vehicle plates off of a neighbor's vehicle and placing the plates on a vehicle being driven by Baird. Baird and Kurtley remain in the Izard County Detention Facility pending an appearance before District Judge David E. Miller.
Johnny Propst, age 36 of Batesville was arrested March 17 on failure to appear warrant on a class “a” misdemeanor. Propst remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of a $500 cash bond.
Maurice Moser, age 22 of Mt. Pleasant was arrested Thursday on a felony failure to appear warrant for failing to appear in Izard County Circuit Court. Moser remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond.
Treva Gay Shrake, age 54 of Dolph was arrested Friday on a failure to appear warrant and remains in the Izard County Detention Facility inn lieu of a cash bond in the amount of $1,500.
Jennifer Elliot, age 35 of Calico Rock was arrested Friday on a failure to appear warrant and remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of a cash bond in the amount of $1,500.
In an companion arrest, Christopher Shane Elliot, age 40 of Calico Rock was arrested on a failure to appear warrant out of Izard County District Court and remains in ;the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $1,500 cash bond.
Roger Lee Johnson, age 44 of Batesville was committed March 18 to the Izard County Detention Facility on a no bond status for violating terms of drug court.
Melissa Jean Casey, age 34 of Melbourne was committed to the Izard County Detention Facility by probation/parole and later transferred to the custody of the Jonesboro Police Department.
Frank Shawn Dickens, age 41 of Locust Grove was transported Friday to serve time in the Arkansas Department of Correction.
A Horseshoe Bend man, Larry Joe Herring, age 35 was transported Friday to serve a term in the Arkansas Department of Correction.
