The Izard County Sheriff’s Department will participate in the National Drug Take Back initiative on April 26, 2014, 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Drug deposit boxes are located at the Melbourne office and the Horseshoe Bend office of the sheriff’s department. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that this is the eighth year the county has participated in this event. Due to this program and other state initiatives, youth prescription drug abuse rates in Arkansas have fallen each of the last three years. More than 41 tons of pills, estimated at 115 million doses have been collected in our state which puts us at #4 in the country in weight collected per capita. For the first time feeding organizations will be set alongside law enforcement officers during this time to collect food for families in need. All the food that is collected will be distributed right back to hungry families in Izard County. Bring you outdated and unwanted prescription drugs along with nonperishable food items to the locations mentioned above. |
