In conjunction with Flag Day, the Izard County Sheriff’s Department will host a flag retirement ceremony on Monday, June 15 at the sheriff’s office in Melbourne. The noon event will include patriotic music, hot dog and drinks. Worn, faded, ruffled, or other unserviceable American flags will be burned in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code which simply state, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display , should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning”.
Sheriff Tate Lawrence said the flags will be destroyed in a dignified and reverent manner. Everyone is encourage to attend and bring with them any unserviceable American Flag.
