TRAFFIC STOP NETS DRUG ARREST

An August 19 traffic stop in Melbourne by Sgt. Mark Simino resulted in the arrest of Steven Ball, age 66 of Oxford. Deputy Jason Jordan’s drug dog Mendy alerted to the 1994 GMC pickup that Ball was driving. Ball readily admitted to having a bag of marijuana and smoking pipe. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said a search revealed a clear plastic baggie containing a green leady substance along with a smoking pipe. Ball was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of an instrument of crime. Ball was released from the Izard County Detention after appearing in Izard County District court and given a September 3 court date.

Caleb Goodman, age 24 of Evening Shade was arrested August 20 on charges of harassing communications and theft of property. The harassing communications warrant of arrest stems from Goodman allegedly calling his ex—girlfriend numerous times and texting her numerous times after she told him not to so.  As to Goodman’s arrest on theft of property charges, he is accused to purchasing items from B and B Supply in Franklin and charging the purchase a deceased relative, according to Sheriff Lawrence. Goodman remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $3,390 cash bond with a scheduled court date of September 3.

Joseph Morfield, age 31 of Horseshoe Bend was arrested August 18 on the charge of disorderly conduct following an incident with a sheriff’s deputy. Morfield posted bond August 21 in the amount of $220, was released from the Izard County Detention Facility and given a September 1 court date in Horseshoe Bend.

Tanya Pauline Powell, age 39 of Calico Rock was arrested August 22 on two failure to appear warrants, one a felony and one a misdemeanor. The felony warrant is the result of not appearing to answer drug related charges and theft by receiving. The misdemeanor warrant is for failing to answer charges in district court relating to obstructing governmental operations and resisting arrest charges .Powell is being held on a $10,750 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Izard County Circuit Court on August 26 and in Izard County District Court on September 3.

Brian Wells, age 42 of Melbourne was jailed August 20 for violating conditions of probation/parole and is being held without bond pending a revocation hearing in Izard County Circuit Court.

Jeremy Wayne Nehring, age 37 of Highland was arrested August 18 on a violation of Arkansas hot check law warrant. Nehring posted bond the following day in a cash amount of $708. Nehring was released from the Izard County Detention Facility with a Horseshoe Bend court date of September 8.

Jessie Leon Davis, age 41 of Sulphur Rock was arrested August 19 on a failure to pay fines warrant out of Izard County District Court. Davis appeared before District Judge David E. Miller on August 20, was released under the condtion that he pay his total fines within two weeks.

Thomas Branscum, age 32 of Calico Rock was jailed August 19 for violating conditions of probation/parole. Branscum is being held without bond pending a revocation hearing. Branscum has a history of frequent encounters with the Izard County criminal justice system.

A Dolph man, twenty one year old Justin Wayne Sanders was arrested August 17 for having no vehicle insurance and a Louisiana warrant. Sanders was extradited to Louisiana on August 19 and was given an Izard County court date of October 8.

A Horseshoe Bend man, sixty two year old Raymond William Duerkes was arrested August 18 on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Duerkes posted bond the day of his arrest in the cash amount of $440, released from the Izard County Detention Facility  with a September 1 Horseshoe Bend Court date.

Another Horseshoe Bend man, Jacob Wayne Heikes, age 29 was arrested August 17 on a failure to appear warrant. Heikes remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $540 cash bond.

Jeremy Wayne Niederbrach, age 37 of Salem was jailed August 17 for failing to comply with conditions of drug court. Niederbrach was then transported to the Fulton County Jail to serve the court imposed commitment.

Doylene Renne Sutherland, age 42 of Camp was arrested early morning August 24 on charges of driving on a suspended license and for not having vehicle insurance. Sutherland remains in the Izard County Detention in lieu of $435 bond with a Horseshoe Bend court date of August 1.
