MALLORY RORIE
A first year teacher at Melbourne High School, who is no longer employed by the school, was arrested January 13 and charged with multiple counts of social host, furnishing alcohol to a minor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Mallory Dawn Rorie, age 27 of Horseshoe Bend has been accused of hosting a party for several Melbourne High students and students from other schools on or about December 11. Nine of the students were underage males and two were underage females. It is alleged that Rorie furnished alcoholic beverages to the students at her home. One of the students interviewed by the Izard County Sheriff’s Department said that he did not remember much about the party because he passed out early. During the course of the investigation, School Resource Deputy Matt Chruchwell provided the names of twelve[T1] students, all under the age of 18, and they were interviewed. One of the twelve students said he had been to Rorie’s house before but had not been there the night of the underage drinking. The remaining eleven students said they had been at Rorie’s house on the night in question and some stated that Rorie furnished the alcohol while some said that alcohol was also brought to the party by some students. Nine of students spent the entire night at the house. Students all said that Rorie told them not to tell anyone about the event. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Melbourne School administration was most cooperative and brought the allegation to the Izard County Sheriff’s Department and also assisted in the investigation. Rorie refused to be interview. Lawrence further stated that it is his understanding that Rorie left the school when comforted with the allegations and is longer employed at the school. Rorie faces a total of 33 counts, all class “a” misdemeanors and is scheduled to appear in Horseshoe Bend court on March 2. Rorie after posting a $2,500 appearance bond the day of her arrest was released from the Izard County Detention Center. Deputy Matt Chruchwell, Melbourne School Resource Officer and Lieutenant Charlies Melton of the sheriff’s department’s criminal investigative section along with school officials conducted the investigation.
