Sheriff Tate Lawrence announced that Izard County will again participate in the National Drug Take Back Program on October 22 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This event is held to combat misuse of prescription medication and to mitigate the negative effects related to flushing medication into the water sources or sending them to the landfill. National Drug Take Back Day gives us an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by getting rid of potentially dangerous expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs. Everyone is encourage to clean out their medicine cabinets and get rid of these medications by dropping them off at drug depository boxes located at the sheriff’s office at 300 Circle Drive in Melbourne and at the sheriff’s substation in Horseshoe Bend. This event is coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, Arkansas Drug Office and local agencies.
