Izard County Deputies were dispatched the night of July 31 to 810 Hickory Flat Road in response to a physical altercation that was taking place.  Upon arrival to the residence, a female later identified as Carol Berman was sitting on the front porch with a bottle of vodka between her legs. The victim stated that Berman came to her home and grabbed her arms squeezing them leaving minor lacerations and redness. The victim stated that she was in poor health and on various medications.

When advised that she was under arrest as the aggressor, Berman with problems standing began to yell out profanities to the deputies and attempted to walk away.  When Deputy Phil Story attempted to place hand restrains on her, Berman jerked away and spit toward him striking him in the ear and shirt.  During the struggle, Berman kicked the same Story on the left knee.  After being place in the patrol unit,; Berman continually kicked the protective cage, spit all over the windows, and beat on the door glass with her fist and feet.

 Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Carol Berman, age 48 of Franklin was charged with battery third degree, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, public intoxication, and obstruction of governmental operations.

Berman was released from the Izard County Detention Facility after appearing before District Judge David E. Miller.

In an unrelated matter, Tommy Ray Moser, Jr., age 31 was arrested Saturday morning following a call to a West Road, Mt. Pleasant.  Moser, who was staying with relatives became combative when asked to leave the residence.  Moser was charged with battery third degree and will remain in the Izard County Detention Facility until appearing before a judge.

Gearl Dale Adams, age 27 of Calico Rock was arrested August 1 on an Izard County failure to appear warrant.  Adams posted bond Sunday in the amount of $500 cash and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility. 

Johnnie Henry Swafford, age 22 of Oxford was arrested August 2 on similar failure to appear warrant, posted bond in the $380 and was transported  by Baxter County authorities to face charges there.
