Izard County deputies responded late Thursday night to a Pineville address to a domestic violence call.  Upon arrival at 86 East Jacksonport Road, they observed a female standing on the front porch in a shirt and underwear who stated that Joseph Gaston, age 28 of that address had awakened her and began to punch and choke her.

Gaston, who was inside the residence, refused  to open the locked door.  After several attempts to unlock the door with the key provided by the victim, Deputy Acy Beebe gained entry and observed Gaston holding his one year old son in his arms.  Gaston appeared very aggravated and ordered the officers out of the house. Gaston released the baby to the victim, began walking into another room and stated that he would not be taken from the house. When ordered to turn around and place his hands behind his back and attempts were made to place Gaston in hand restraints, a struggle ensued.  After warning, Gaston was tased and hand restraints were placed on him.

The  19 year -old female victim stated that Gaston had passed out from drinking , that he woke up and started abusing her verbally and started hitting her in the face and head.  The victim further stated that Gaston threatened to kill her.  The one year old son observed the commotion. The victim is four months pregnant.

Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Gaston was charged with domestic battery 3rd degree, resisting arrest, and endangering the welfare of a minor. Sheriff Lawrence said felony domestic charges are pending as the result of the victim being pregnant.
