When Izard County sheriff’s deputy Phil Story conducted a welfare check Monday night  requested by David McCoy’s landlord, Deputy Story found 57 year-old David McCoy dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that himself, Chief Investigator Charles Melton, and Izard County Coroner Eddie Howard  responded to the apartment  on Dixon Street in Melbourne occupied by McCoy. An investigation determined that McCoy died from a single gunshot would to the head from a 22 caliber pistol.  His death was ruled as suicide. Family members and associates  said that McCoy had been extremely depressed the past few days due to several circumstances.  No foul play is suspected, Sheriff Lawrence said.
