A late afternoon sobriety checkpoint conducted by the Arkansas State Police May 8 resulted in the arrest of twenty year-old Eduardo Sotelo of 195 Moser Street, Melbourne.  In conjunction with the Izard County Sheriff’s Department and the 16th Judicial District l Drug Task Force, Sotelo was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver after a quarter pound of marijuana was found on Sotelo’s person. Additionally, Sotelo was charged with driving while intoxicated-drugs and five count of obstructing governmental operations. According to Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence, Sotelo is being held in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $26, 525 bond pending a court appearance.

The Izard County Sheriff’s Department, working with the Horseshoe Bend Police Department and the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force brought drug related charges against Christopher Dennis Stone. During a traffic stop the night of May 3+ by the Horseshoe Bend Police Department, a smoking device along with methamphetamine was found in the pocket of Stone. The thirty six year-old Stone from Violet Hill was charged with possessing of methamphetamine drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Stone was released from the Izard County Detention Facility May 7 after posting a $10,000 bond.  A court date of May 14 has been set for Stone.

In another drug related matter, Michael Allen Horton of Oxford was arrested May 5 on three felony counts of drug possession and one misdemeanor charge of possession marijuana. Twenty two year-old Horton posted bond the day of his arrest in the amount of $430 and the title to a Harley Davidson motorcycle and given a court date of May 14.

Zachary Charles Mayfield, age 33 of Calico Rock was arrested May 7 on a department of correction absconder warrant.  At the time of his arrest, Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Mayfield was in possession of several firearms which are prohibited by felons. Mayfield remains in the Izard County Detention Facility.

Justin Allen Haigwood, age 18 of Melbourne was arrested Saturday afternoon on the charge of public intoxication.  Haigwood appeared before District Judge David E. Miller the following day, given a court date and released from the Izard County Detention Facility.

Harry Daniel Henry, age 42 of Mountain View was arrested Sunday night on the charge of driving while intoxicated-second offense. Henry remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $2,805 bond.

Twonett Regina Harris, age 44 of Mountain Home was arrested May 5 on a Baxter County no-bond warrant.  Harris was transported to Baxter County the day of her arrest.

Two Melbourne men were arrested on Independence County misdemeanor warrants. Kevin Jay Cox, age 51 of Alexander Street was arrested May 8, posted bond the day of his arrest in the amount of $410 and given an Independence County court date.  Joseph William Carter, age 20 of Dixon Street was arrested May 11 and transferred to Batesville the day of his arrest.

Steven Wayne Marshall, age 47 of Dolph was jailed May 6 to serve a 42 day commitment handed down from the Izard/Fulton Counties Drug Court. Marshall will remain incarcerated until his sentence is served.
