Shortly after three o’clock Saturday afternoon, Izard County deputies and Vital Link Ambulance were dispatched to 555 Wideman Road and found Nathaniel Hooper dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Hooper, age 82, according to a neighbor, had been depressed since the death of his wife approximately three or four months ago. According to Sheriff Tate Lawrence, a 9 mm handgun was found near the body and a note was found inside the residence. Out of state next of kin was notified. Izard County Coroner Eddie Howard pronounced Hooper dead at the scene.
