The Izard County Sheriff’s Department recently investigated scams involving the purchase of high dollar cell phones. The Shepard of the Hills Presbyterian Church and the Eagles Club, both in Horseshoe Bend , reported that they each received a shipment of cell phones delivered by FedEx .The cell phones were ordered from Verizon by someone who established a charge account using the federal tax number and the address of the two organizations. The investigation indicates that the intent of the scammers was to call FedEx representing themselves to be from the church and club and telling them the phones were shipped to the wrong address, to pick up the phones and ship to a West Virginia address. Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence said neither organization knew how their federal tax number was obtained.
