10/26/2015 PHONE SCAMS IN IZARD COUNTY |
|||
Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that he had received several reports of a couple types of phone scams occurring recently in the county. One of the scams is phone calls to area residents with the caller claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service saying the individual owes money and if the money is not immediately sent to them, a warrant will be issued for their arrest. The sheriff warns not to send money because the IRS does not conduct such business by phone. In the other scam, the caller identifies himself as a family member in need of money for such things as emergency medical or bond money to get out of jail. These calls are not legitimate and money should not be sent.
