Matthew Loris Jones, age 33 of Calico Rock who fled from law enforcement last Thursday night was arrested December 5. Jones, who had an absconder warrant from the Arkansas Department of Correction was stopped in Pineville Thursday and when advised that he was under arrest immediately accelerated his vehicle and sped away. Deputy Mark Simino gave chase from Pineville into Fulton County, through Viola and then into Salem. In Salem, Fulton County deputies joined the chase which continued on highway 9 north toward Union. Spike strips placed in the roadway by Fulton County authorities deflated the tires on the Tahoe Jones was driving and simultaneously the vehicle ran out of gasoline. Jones then exited the vehicle and ran into the woods at which time the dog team from the North Central Unit gave chase. After several hours of looking for Jones the chase was called off. On Monday Jones was arrested and formally charged as an absconder, fleeing in a vehicle, resisting arrest, no insurance, no driving license, and fictitious tags. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said additional charges were likely from Fulton County. Sheriff Lawrence said he was appreciative of the assistance provided by Fulton County, the North Central Unit, and the 16th Judicial Drug Task Force. Jones remains in the Izard County Detention Facility without bond and has an Izard County Circuit court date of December 12.
